How do we currently train in the psychological, medical, educational and social fields on the topic of sexual orientation and gender identities? What knowledge is needed? What theoretical models can be used to promote the well-being of LGBTQ+ people and their families? What can the testimonies and life stories of LGBTQ+ people teach us? The manual explores the topic of coming out, that is, the disclosure of one’s sexual orientation and/or gender identity in the main contexts of life: family, friendships, school, sports and work. Particular attention is paid to the clinical and therapeutic context both in reference to the experiences of those who rely on mental health experts and by explaining any difficulties and training needs of psychologists and therapists.
