Who are the bisexual, pansexual and queer people who are attracted to more than one gender? And what political struggles have they been waging in Italy for the past 20 years? To give a voice to these concerns, *Politiche delle bisessualità* aims to provide an Italian counterpart to the international network of experiences and texts which, from the 1990s to the present day, have developed and interwoven research, analysis and bisexual political practices to combat biphobia and address the lack of genuine focus on the ‘B’ in LGBTQIA+ within rights movements from Stonewall to the present day. Authors from the worlds of research and activism have contributed to this multidisciplinary volume aimed at LGBTQIA+ people and their allies, policy-makers, healthcare professionals, activists and anyone wishing to explore sexualities beyond binary frameworks.

Aurelio Castro, who holds a PhD in Social Sciences, is a research fellow and lecturer in the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of Bologna. Since 2015, he has been researching bisexuality, sexual orientations, masculinities and non-monogamy from a psychosocial and queer perspective. He writes about bisexual politics and designs training programmes for schools, organisations and the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2017, he was a member of the organising committee for Bi Visibility Day Padova, Italy’s first Bi+ Pride event, and is a member of the International Bisexual Research Group.

About the author...

Aurelio Castro holds a PhD in Social Sciences and is a lecturer and research fellow in social, occupational and organisational psychology. His academic work explores inequalities and psychosocial dynamics, combining scientific research with activism since 2015. His research focuses on sexual orientations, masculinities and non-monogamy, analysed through a queer lens. Among his most notable works is his editing of the essay Policies on bisexuality. Beyond the visibility of bisexual, pansexual and queer people (ETS Editions, 2023). The work deconstructs social binary thinking, exploring how people who do not fit exclusively into the categories of heterosexuality or homosexuality have historically been marginalised. The text’s key themes champion the plurality of bi+ attractions and the need to destabilise an order based on rigid dichotomies. Through an analytical approach, the author’s writing offers a tool for collective reflection, enabling the LGBTQIA+ community to define its own diverse experiences.
