1st Edition of Rainbook Literary Contest "Laura Grasso," Historian LGBTQIA+ Activist

We are pleased to announce the first edition of the “Rainbook” literary contest, a tribute to the memory and legacy of Laura Grasso, an extraordinary figure and historic activist in the LGBTQIA+ community. The contest aims to celebrate diversity through writing, providing a platform to stimulate creativity and promote awareness.

The finalists of the 2024 edition

The four finalists of the “Laura Grasso” Literary Award for the 𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐈𝐓𝐈 category are announced:
(In random order)

  • Avellino Alessio with “(It) was NOT my fault.”
  • Gardel Stenio with “The Remaining Word.”
  • Valerio Martyr with“Stranizza
  • Molica Franco Angel with “The Extraordinary Darkness.”

Awards Ceremony 🏆

On Sunday, Oct. 27, at the hall of frescoes of the Ex Convent of Quartu Sant’Elena, the award ceremony for the “Laura Grasso LGBTQIA+ Literary Prize” was held.

For the INEDITES 🏆the prize goes to“Now that Space is All Mine” by Giorgio Baiocco with the following motivation:

“The author has proposed a solid and convincing text, extremely good in structure, narrative form and timely in mastering literary vocabulary. The well-constructed and original plot, evidently the result of a secure expertise, caught the attention of the jury, who considered it worthy of publication.”

The author will be awarded publication with the Janus publishing house and will be featured in the 2025 edition of Rainbook.

The SPECIAL award 🏆 given by Baa Baa Aps goes to “PRIDE (scripta maneant)” with the following motivation:

“For collecting the most beautiful and meaningful moments of Pride events.
For being able to capture and tell through images the colors and political significance of the many Pride events around the world and for giving us a glimpse of the history of our movement.”

Jurors and jurors Teresa Martini, Gabriella Romano, Alessio Romagnani, Alberto Milazzo and Giovanni Follesa proclaimed Valerio La Martire as the winner for the EDITION category .🏆.

“For the importance of the themes dealt with, the attention to historical fact, the elegance of language and style, and the very lucid stroke of the psychological insight of the characters. A dry and sharp reading that does not digress or indulge in the albeit dramatic aspect of the events covered. We award Stranizza by Valerio La Martire for having returned a fundamental page in the path of rights in Italy.”

Also present were the other finalists for the Prize; Alessio Avellino, Angelo Molica Franco and, representing Stenio Gardel, Ciro Auriemma.

The winners and finalists were presented with prizes realized by Raku Ceramics.
