Interpersonal Relations
“Human relationships are a drag. They are the complex result of an incalculable number of variables, many of which we do not even know exist. Yet we cannot avoid relating to others and, to some extent, depending on them, since we are social animals and our quality of life depends largely on the quality of our relationships. Unfortunately, we need others: they allow us to see ourselves from the outside and, above all, love (in all its forms) is a fundamental need, which drives us towards our fellow (or dissimilar) beings. DiversaMente is the condensation of decades of personal observations, reflections and a not insignificant number of misadventures, with the aim of “cracking” the social code for the benefit of those who, like me, feel somewhat lacking in those social skills that allow us to intuitively understand interpersonal dynamics. If your instincts sometimes fail you, let’s try to think about it differently.” With his uncommon intelligence and an irony that spares no one, Immanuel Casto offers us a guide as useful as it is irreverent to deciphering rules and hypocrisies in everyday life. From tips to avoid useless conversations to tricks to criticise without being hated, DiversaMente is much more than a quick course on how to communicate effectively. It is an invaluable source of anecdotes, failures, unfiltered confessions and a gallery of experiences that no one had dared to write about. A brilliant, caustic and enlightening book for those who do not want to give in to misanthropy but are very close to it.
