‘Rainbook is not just a literary festival, it wants to be an important force for change, committed to inspiring and spreading a culture of sustainability through LGBTQI+ literature and discussion.’

Rainbook supports all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) enshrined by the UN General Assembly in 2015, promoting a more equitable, respectful, inclusive and sustainable future for people, the environment and the planet.

A unique initiative in Italy carried out by the Festival is the Bosco Letterario, a project that, through the planting of numerous plants belonging to over 30 species, absorbs 1,200 tonnes of CO2 each year, contributing significantly to reducing the event’s environmental impact.

In pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Festival adopts an Environmental Policy that:

active in empowering and raising the awareness of its members, volunteers and collaborators and its public on environmental protection issues;

✅ It uses digital technologies (such as QrCodes that link to the Festival website) to reduce paper consumption and improve the usability of information;

✅ It uses low-power and LED sound and lighting systems;

✅ It uses recycled or recyclable materials for printing the Festival’s promotional materials;

✅ It encourages public and shared transport to reach the Festival locations;

✅ It minimises distances between guest accommodation and the locations chosen for the events by avoiding the use of motorised cars for travel;

✅ It includes waste separation at all event venues;

✅ It favours the use of public and open-air spaces in order to return the cultural aspects of the Festival to the population, also in a free form;

✅ It involves participating hotels, restaurants and bars engaged in the promotion of local, identity and seasonal products;

✅ It aims to reduce waste production by eliminating the use of disposable materials and encouraging the use of public water and reusable water bottles;

✅ It includes, whenever possible, sales/consumption spaces for local products, also making room for vegan and gluten-free choices.

Rainbook is not just a literary festival, it wants to be an important force for change, committed to inspiring and spreading a culture of sustainability through LGBTQI+ literature and discussion.
